Risky Business workshop at MIT Center for Advanced Visual Studies
02/06/06
Yonathan Dessalegn, Damon Rich, and Sam Stark led a two-day workshop January 30 and 31 at the MIT Center for Advanced Visual Studies. Working with MIT students and CAVS staff, we shot a low-budget talk show about risk and how it is being studied at MIT. Interviewees included Pasha Roberts (www.lineplot.com), a finance expert who animates explanations of investment concepts, Nancy Leveson (sunnyday.mit.edu/csrl.html), the director of MIT’s Center for the Engineering of Advanced Systems, and Andrea Campbell(web.mit.edu/polisci/faculty/A.Campbell.html), a political scientist studying support for social insurance.

Detroit Do Your Thing! on display at Leipzig's Museum of Contemporary Art
12/12/05
Last fall, CUP, in collaboration with Interboro (www.interboropartners.com), was named one of nine winners of the international “Shrinking Cities: Reinventing Urbanism” competition sponsored by the German Federal Cultural Foundation. CUP’s work is now on display in Leipzig.
This exhibition includes four prototypical educational tools designed by CUP on the topic of Detroit and its suburbs: a flipbook of shifting municipal borders, a wall map of race demographics, the “Visible Detroit Map Kit” illustrating relationships between city infrastructure and population, and a video of stakeholder interviews.
